Inle Lake, boat, hotel, lunch with Cat Village, Lotus fiber weaving, Blacksmith, Village tour, Monastery with cats and gold Buddha shrines, sunset on deck, dinner at hotel
We had one final early wake up! We started off the day by eating breakfast then by driving to the airport. After waiting in the airport for a while we flew off on KWZ airlines over to Inle Lake. Over in Inlay, the town we were driving towards, we took a long tail boat over to our hotel. This boat was long, skinny, pretty slow, and loud, but they are unique. On our boat ride to our hotel we saw floating gardens. The floating gardens are gardens that are simply floating gardens on the lake with bamboo stakes staking them to the bottom of the lake. To treat the gardens the gardener has to go out on their boat. We dropped our bags off at the hotel, lied down for a little bit, then got back into the boat. Our first stop was lunch. Our lunch spot was part restaurant, part store, and part cat sanctuary! My favorite part was the cat sanctuary. most or all of the cats they had were Burmese cats. They had three different colors mostly chocolate brown, a few gray and 1 white.
Finished with lunch and the cat sanctuary we boated over to the Lotus and silk weaving factory and shop. We had all ready seen silk stuff before but we hadn't seen the Lotus before. To make the lotus string the workers take the Lotus stock and cut and break it which makes little little strings. Then with water they roll all the little strings into a bigger string. We also saw them work on the looms and where they die the fabric. One thing I saw that I hadn't seen before was tying thin rope around the white silk strings so they could have a dye a design instead without the colors blending together.
We next took the boat over to the blacksmith where they were working on a knife. We had a shorter stop there then the silk and Lotus shop before boating to the village on the water. These villages were different because the homes were on stilts on the water, they had bigger houses because they housed families with two generations, and they use boats instead of scooters.
Next we moved through the floating gardens. In the floating gardens they mainly grow tomatoes and one other fruit or vegetable. After moving through the garden we stopped by some people boat racing. They weren't just paddling no, they were paddling with around 20 people and all paddling with there LEG! Inle Lake is unique to its leg paddlers. Using their leg gives them an advantage when their fishing to spot stuff better when standing up.
