November 6, 2014 (Aswan, Egypt)

Today we didn't do lots of touring but it was still fun. Today we were touring in  Aswan. First we went to the Old Dam of the Nile. It was built in the 19th century by the British, which is still in use. Then we went to the High Dam which was only 10k away. The Russians helped build the Dam, which meant they got part of the electricity from it. In thanks of the Russians they built a big monument near the dam in their honor.  We then went to a temple where there was an unfinished obelisk. It was unfinished because the granite cracked while they were cutting it from the quarry. It cracked from the wood rods inside of it expanding too far which created too much pressure for the rock to handle which resulted in cracking.

Next we went to a temple named the Philae Temple. The temple was underground for 40 years. It is also on an island which you have to take a boat to. While we were there Hany, our tour guide, talked about the history of the temple and how it had been taken totally apart and moved to this island since it was buried under water when they built the High Dam. During our free time Syd and I took some pictures then got some ice cream at the end. Before heading back to the boat we stopped at a place that showed us how the ancient Egyptians made paper from Papyrus by soaking it and cutting it into strips and pressing it.

When we got back we relaxed for a little then had lunch. Lunch was great, my favorite part was the pomegranate seeds, and they were already taken out of there shells. I loved them so much I took a bowl back to our room.

Later Kendall, Syd and I decided to stay on the boat instead of doing our evening activity. When I was with them I did my blog, played cards, and had hot chocolate it was lot of fun just being with my sisters.
