This morning we were leaving Bamberg. Before leaving we biked around the center of town, but we spent most of the time in the doctors office getting a prescription for my Lyme disease. The prescription we later received was the antibiotic, Doxycycline, which will the swelling in my knee caused by the Lyme disease to go down. Before leaving Bamberg, we bought a cookoo clock in the old part of town. The clock plays two songs at the half and hour time and a little bird comes out from the door and cookoos. I had never seen a cookoo clock in action.
When we left the sweet town of Bamberg we had to drive a hour and fifteen minutes to Rothenburg. On the way we had a detour out in the country side where Mom and I saw a picturesque landscape of a German church in a big light green field. Rothenburg is a Bavarian town that is known for their Christmas shops and Christmas Museum. The Christmas stores were over the top! Even though it wasn't Christmas they still acted like it was. The biggest store had two floors and had many rooms full of cookoo clocks, ornaments, and other Bavarin and Christmas stuff. The Christmas museum was quite interesting, it told the story behind Christmas. In the early days instead of ornaments and lights made out of modern material people used apples and candles to decorate and light up their own Christmas tree. The people used the apples to represent Adam & Eve, when Eve grabbed an apple off the tree. Later on the apples turned into glass blown balls that we have now. Saint Nick was actually a Bishop over 1700 years ago but around the 19th century the stories of him and the gift giving evolved into what we think of as Santa Clause.
We walked around Rothenburg for a little while longer then hopped back into the car and drove a hour and a half to Stuttgart. Our hotel looked sketch! The building was pink and had graffiti on the wall, and to get into the hotel you had to intercom the front desk to unlock the door. Once we were in the lobby and past the smell of “Pakistany food” Mom said it smelled like, we tried checking in. The hotel had one room left which was reserved for us but they thought it was just a single person staying there. All it was, was one twin bed. I was willing to sleep on the floor or something but Mom said that was ok, she desperately wanted to get out or there!
