June 12-18, Spain School Trip (Madrid to Malaga, Spain)

We met my school at the hotel in Madrid where I would stay with them in Puerta del Sol aka Vodafone Sol for four days. The first day we saw art museums in Madrid and a bullfighting ring. Nick and I did timelapses on the bus. We ate at a great lunch spot which was like a fastfood joint and you wrote what you wanted on a slip of paper and each sandwich was about 1 euro and you could order multiple of them, it was really good. The next day we went to Segovia and we saw the Castle and Roman Aqueduct. At the bus station we got some bouncy balls and parachute men which we played with throughout the day. Luke and I named our parachute men, ET and Paul, because they were both aliens ;)

Tuesday we went to Toledo. Toledo is a beautiful city on a mountain basically which used to be a fortress. It has several sword factories. In fact, Toledo is where the Lord of the Rings swords were made. In Toledo I got a fan for my mom. We also went to the Cathedral de Toledo. One the way to Seville we stopped in Cordoba. There we ate lunch and saw a Muslim Mosque called Cordoba-Mosque Cathedral, that had been changed into a Catholic Cathedral, which I think they called Mosquito. It had many sculptures of saints and had red and white striped arches.

Tonight we stayed Seville in a nice four star hotel. That night we walked around town and saw the “Mushroom Buildings” that we went onto of and took pictures of the sunset. The next day we saw many attractions. We visited the Cathedral of Seville which is the world’s largest Catholic Cathedral. It had one huge area covered with saints that was all gilded in gold. We toured around the Plaza de Espana, where they filmed part of Star Wars II. I really loved the Plaza de Espana, it was amazing because of it’s cool architecture and unique features. We later toured a Muslim Palace where they had filmed part of Game of Thrones, a TV show I believe, but I have never watched it before.

Still in Seville we watched a Flamenco dance which my mom was so jealous of. It was really awesome to see someone dance like that in a new and different style that I had never seen before. The dancers were fast and strong and dramatic while they danced. That night after returning from dancing we had to quickly go to the subway station before it closed at ll p.m. Fortunately we made it to our hotel while the subway was still running.

Thursday we were on the road again to Grenada. That morning we had a wake up call on the phone at 6:30 a.m. I woke up and set another alarm for 6:45. One of the alarms I set I woke up my roommate Luke. I turned the light on and then fell asleep again. 2 hours later at 8:30 I heard a knock on the door. My friend Isaac came up and said “Everyone is on the bus. We were suppose to leave 10 mins ago!” I rushed to get my bag packed with the help of my teacher and my friend. We raced down and hopped on the bus. I felt badly that they had been waiting for us.

After a few hours we arrived in Grenada. We visited the Al Hambra. It was my favorite muslim palace built by the Moors that I went through. It didn’t just have beautiful architecture but it also had beautiful gardens which were well maintained and scenic views of the city of Grenada below. That evening we took the bus and arrived in Malaga which is a beach city. Just after we arrived Luke and I got our suits on and headed to the beach. The water was cold but we swam anyways. There were big boulders in the water that we couldn’t see and hurt a lot. It was fun to be swimming in the ocean. That  night I met up with my mom and we had our last dinner together as a group. Our group did a wrap up on the beach and played on the sand.
