It was our last full day in Germany, and me and my mom's last day just the two of us for the rest of our world travel. In the morning we biked around the beautiful area Hohenschwangau! We biked by a white church in the fields, it wasn't open but we could look through the window. The church was alone in the field, all but us two and a few other people were there. We also biked by an awesome lake that was super calm and had ducks out in the water. The lake reminded me of New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesauke. Most of the time we could look where our hotel was by finding where the Neuschwanstien castle was, which stands on a steep dark green mountain with cliffs on most of it's sides and tall mountains behind it.
When we finished our biking we left the hotel and drove to Linderhof. The drive there was beautiful, it was New Zealandesque, with great tall mountain ranges with greenery all around with twisty roads and lovely views! Linderhof was a palace that was built by King Ludwig II. The palace was designed after the palace of Versailles but the Linderhof palace is much smaller. King Ludwig II’s idol was Louis XIV who built most of Versailles. King Ludwig II was more of a loner. He liked being by himself, so for most of the time he slept in the day and was up during the night. He held portions of operas for himself in his artificial grotto (cave). In the grotto he had a pond with a golden colored boat he would sometimes watch the operas in. He could also change the lighting in the grotto and have a waterfall splashing. The grotto was made out of different materials but was coated in concrete such as were the artificial stalactites and stalagmites. The whole palace grounds were a little like a fantasy.
Inside the castle the king's bedroom was very impressive and looked out to the water features and gardens. We walked around looking at some other buildings like the Moroccan house and the chapel before eating lunch. When we finished lunch we left the palace grounds and drove to Munich for the last night in Germany before flying to Spain. It was a beautiful drive, rolling hills, and farms.
When we arrived at the Airport Marriott Hotel we called Dad and chilled. In our room, the Ritz Carlton in Berlin had sent a surprise, a monogrammed shirt and hat that both had "The World Seen By Sam" on the back of them! That was very nice of them to do that for me.
For dinner we walked around the town and found one of the restaurants the hotel had recommended. For dinner I ate German. I had soup with slices of crepe in it, and for my main I had a BIG piece of Weiner Schnitzel. We later on walked back to the hotel by the pretty town before lying down in our room for the night. Tomorrow I meet my friends from Park City Day School in Spain for a week. I am looking forward to it.
