June 5, 2015 (Weltvogel Bird Park, Walsrode, Germany)

It was such a special day, bird day!!! We were going to walk through the largest bird park in the world! We waited in line for the park to open. We walked around the bird park from morning opening to closing evening. Right by the entrance we were met at the shop by the director and one ranger. They were so kind to us partly because of my love of birds! To start off our day in Weltvogel Park we walked with a ranger to where they keep the Parrot’s and other birds for the show. There I was so happy to hold some of the birds like a Cockatoo, Macaw and even a Kea. The Kea is known to be a super intelligent bird, and we even saw wild Kea’s in New Zealand! I loved holding and petting the Cockatoo’s, they were Sulfur Crested Cockatoo’s! There were two different Macaws I held, one was a Blue and Gold Macaw and the other was a Scarlet Macaw. After holding the Parrot’s I was able to hold another bird, a bird of prey! This bird of prey was a falcon and weighed over 1 kg, How do I know how much it weighed was because we weighed both of the birds. The Falcon I was holding was named Dolly and was in the first show we saw. One other thing that I did with the birds was I fed the Ibises. The Ibises went crazy over the food. The boss Ibis was even trying to nip at me.

Before watching the first show I walked while holding a cockatoo to get where she needed to be prepped for the show for the show. The Cockatoo was getting all agro by doing a twitch at me and flaring her long feathers at me because I wasn't giving her as many sunflower seeds!

The outdoor bird shows were awesome, the best I had ever seen! I was even able to be in the first flight show. I had a Barn Owl fly back and forth from me and I could even pet it's back! The owl was soft, fluffy, and friendly too! In the show they also had a solo with Dolly the falcon that I held before the show. Her part in the show was to fly down onto the stage and then grab a fake leather bird that the trainer flung in the air At the end of the outdoor show there were many birds flying freely such as Macaws, Conures, Cockatoos, and Ibises. To get the Conures back into their cages a trainer took a giant sunflower, put sunflower seeds in it then whistled. Eventually they got the Conures back into their control.

When Mom walked back to the hotel to change I looked at and took pictures of the parrots at the  indoor aviaries of the parrot house. When Mom returned we walked over to the indoor show. The indoor show featured the Kea Parrot and was supposed to be funny but we couldn't understand any of it because it was in German. The Kea parrot showed its intelligence one of the ways by being locked in a box and finding its way out by unscrewing the box.

In between the show we had just watched and the next outdoor show we ate lunch. We tried going for German food for once, it was not that great, Mom and I both ordered a Curryworst. All it was, was a foot long like hotdog with no bun, SWIMMING in BBQ sauce (which mom doesn't like), and had yellow powder on top!

After our German food we walked over to the right side of the restaurant where we walked by birds of prey, humming birds, and an indoor tropical rain forest that had a Balinese theme to it and varied in different species of birds. One bird in the indoor rain forest was an orange one that flew up to the wall of the cage maybe being defensive, also letting me barely touch him on the stomach before flying away. In another building we saw hummingbirds. It was really cool to see them close up and standing still. Next, we saw more birds of prey. My favorite species I saw was a certain type of eagle with a red/orange beak and when he flared up his feathers it made his face look bigger and look awesome.

After walking along the right of the restaurant we made our way over to the left of the restaurant. the first part we saw was the Lory Atrium, where they had all kinds of different Lorys, Lorikeets and some other birds. We walked along the greenery where they host the outdoor shows, looking at parrots and other birds. One of my favorite birds we saw along the greenery were the Toucanets, they looked like mini green toucans!  We also looked at a Toucan, the kind that you expect to see in fruit loops commercials, but he was much bigger than expected.

We watched the next outdoor show. It was similar to the show before but it was also different they featured different birds, such as; pelicans, a BIG bird of prey, and my favorite eagle we had seen before! It was really cool watching the pelicans stretchy lower bill. The trainers were sticking their hand into the pelicans bill stretching their mouth all around.

20 min after the flight show we were brought by one of the park rangers into where they keep the parrots for the shows. I asked if I could hold their Galah Cockatoo, Rosy. Luckily, I was able to hold her, having her perch on my hand, and feeding Rosy seeds. Before departing from the Parrot area I was so happy that I could be with the Sun Conures. I didn't hold any on my hand but I did feed them and a couple flew onto my head. I was so grateful that they gave me time to be with their birds even though what I did was not a normal thing and that they took the time to be with us even in a busy day for them. For the rest of the couple of hours at the park we visited all of the places in the park except for the penguins. One really rad bird we saw was the Great Grey Owl, with its huge kind of looking eyes. Before leaving we played in the awesome park that had loads of stuff , like a zipline and a tower with multiple slides coming down, one of which had like airport security rollers and the other one we went shooting down. Right before exiting we bought  some things in the Weltvogel Park store. When we left we walked back to our hotel and collapsed.

After a hour or so we ate dinner at the hotel which exuded the fancyness. At the end of dinner we visited with the director of the park. He was so interesting, he even knew 11 languages! I was able to ask him about my bird questions. He travels all over the world and flying to other bird parks. He showed us a video of a trained Bird of Paradise doing the mating dance on the trainers hand. The dance was like a fluffy thing with the bird flapping up on his back while hopping around. Neither Mom or I new that the Bird of Paradise  was so awesome. I was really glad to talk to the director and if I have any bird/bird park questions when I get older we know who to call.

After dinner in the room we realized we should get a picture with him incase some bird park thing happens with me.

When we were finally back in the room for good we relaxed read some scriptures then fell asleep.
