February 5, 2015 (Bali, Indonesia)

It was our first full day in Bali. We started off with a show in Ubud. The show is named after the good and bad gods and is based on the Hindu religion and shows a story about gods and an empire. My favorite part of the show was seeing the Tiger god. I liked the Tiger god because the tiger was light on his feet to the beat of the music and would clench his teeth to the music. After the show I was able to take pictures with a little guy (midget) who was in the play.

Finished with the show we drove over with our new guide Made to a wood carving store. When we arrived we had a tour of the BIG store. We first saw the fine wood carvers then walked through the building and saw a few magnificent carvings. The one that I thought had the most detail was a wooden dragon. These are some of the steps in making a carving: 1. draw your idea 2. use big chisel to shape it 3. use fine chisel to get details 4. sand away chisel marking 5. glaze the wood and stain the wood.

Next we drove to a beautiful temple, The Holy Spring Water Temple. When we walked in they gave us a cloth to wear. Once we were in the temple we came across purifying water which you would enter before you enter the center of the temple. And before you enter the purifying water you should give an offering to the gods. The water was cold but refreshing! I dipped under every spout that we were supposed to do. The floor was covered in dark colored stones with dark slippery fish swimming around me. Finished with the washing we walked over to a Koi pool then over to inside the temple. The temple had stone figurines that were mossy and slightly old. there was one part which we could not enter which was the praying area.

Lunch was at the top of a mountain ridge looking towards a volcano, but unfortunately it was a foggy day. Since it was a foggy day we could barely see the volcano at parts.

Next we drove over to the rice terraces. The rice terraces are farms of rice which are on hillsides. I thought the rice terraces were beautiful. A hill turned into steps. The rice terraces that we saw were all naturally watered from terrace to terrace.

Back at the hotel we had some time to relax. When we were in the pool I saw a man toss coconuts down from the tree to the ground and when it fell someone collected it. We were also able to observe a man climbing down a huge palm!

For dinner we took a buggy over to the hotel next door named Komoweka. Komeweka is a bigger hotel than the one we are staying at. Komoweka didn't just have two pools but also had their own rice terraces!

Back from dinner I decided to swim in our hotel's main pool and mom and I played some cards. It was a pleasant evening with the full moon above us. Before we went to bed I did my blog then fell asleep.
