February 7, 2015 (Bali, Indonesia)

This morning when I woke up we didn’t have to rush out the door. We had a little time to get breakfast and get prepared for my school meeting with April. After my school school meeting we hopped in the car with Made and drove to Ubud. In Ubud we drove to Palace Temple. The village palace wasn’t huge but wasn’t tiny but it was decorative. Next we walked through a small marked looking for an Udon. An udong is an article of clothing for men that wraps around your head. We eventually found one but it was pre-tied but that is not what we were looking for. We also strolled through  some antique stores and I found a wooden Barong, the tiger god. I liked it because I liked the light footed chomping Barong from the Balinese dancing show. But we didn’t get it because it wasn’t worth the shipping.

The afternoon we spent at the bird park was great. It was one of my favorite bird parks I have ever been to. I liked it because we were able to interact with the birds, unlike the World of Birds which had many birds but none which you could hold. Walking around the Bird Park we had a conversation about getting a bird. I want a non 100 year old living parrot, but one that is social and friendly. My favorite bird I saw and was able to hold was the Eclectpus Parrot because it was nice looking, not big, light, and good as a pet. Towards our end of our stay at the Bali Bird Park we saw the Birds of Prey show. It had all kinds of  birds from Owls to Kites. During the show I was even able to interact with the birds of prey. The host of the show told me to hold a plate above my head while a Kite swooped down and grabbed the meat on the plate above my head. This happened several times. The man after me went with no plate and they just put the meat on his head because they wanted to step the show up. Straight after the bird park we walked right next door to the Reptile Wildlife Park which had snakes, crocodiles, iguanas and lizards. We were able to see one of the snakes choke down a white mouse. We came after he had captured it and strangled the little guy.

Moving on we had a long grueling 2 and a half hour trek to our next destination, Hotel Tugu. It was grueling because the traffic was terrible and there was no getting around it. On the way was saw a gang of motorcycles which might be typical on a Saturday night.  The gang looked like a group of young teenagers on bullet bikes, dirt bikes, mopeds, and even Jeeps and one of the Jeeps was holding a flag in the air.

Walking into Hotel Tugu there was a huge Hindu bird god right in the middle of the dining room all made out of one piece of wood, besides the wings. We were only in our room for less than 30 mins before switching into a room upstairs that had a better view and better vibes.

Hotel Tugu is a very traditional hotel with lots of Koi and antiques and greenery. The rest of the night we were bloody hot. Mom and I in the middle of night even took a shower in our clothes to cool down and switched our sheets around so our head could be near the fan.
