Today was our first day of us going to our school. As soon as we ate breakfast we hopped in the van at 7:30 a.m. we drove to our Step Up Nursery School. When we got to the nursery school we got to see all the kids. There were 50 children. Today we were only observing, we were not teaching. We first observed the 3-5 year olds. As they were learning their alphabet we helped write down letters/numbers to trace over in each of their notebooks. After they were done studying they received their workbooks and filled out the pages. We helped some of them write their numbers and letters correctly and give them tips and tricks about writing. After we helped the 3-5 year olds we went onto the 5-7 year olds. They were studying Swahili. After we were able to read them stories. I went up in front of the class and red Little Red Riding Hood in English. The headmaster, Hussein, then translated it into Swahili. The kids were loving the stories. They were laughing and having a good time. My mom then read The Three Little Pigs and The Big Bad Wolf. They also loved that book. Then Yvette read the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears the 3-5 year olds. During dismissal we got to play with the children, take pictures with them and plan out our activity for tomorrow.
After school at the home base we were able to eat lunch and chill for a little bit until our Swahili class. In our Swahili class we learned how to say What is your name? My name is ….. Where do you live? I live in ….. Where do you work? I work at ….. What do you do? I am a teacher. We also learned a bunch of vocabulary words
Mimi ni Sam.
Mimi ninatoka Marekani.
Mimi niinafanya kazi Step Up Nursery School.
Mimi ni mwalimu (means teacher.)
Shortly after our lesson we went to town to get groceries and see the town of Moshi. At the grocery store we absolutely had to get Nutella. We got two glass jars full of Nutella! That was the priority of our visit to the grocery store.
Back at home base we had dinner. My favorite part of the meal again were the grilled cheese. After the meal we went to the tour guide office where we scheduled our weekend activity. We decided to do a safari. When we got back I worked on my blog and went to bed.
