October 7, 2014 (Okavango Delta, Botswana)

Today we were leaving Cornelia. But first we did other stuff with her. We got to have a change in our wake up time to at least 8 a.m. It was so nice, it was very nice! For breakfast we had eggs, bacons and toast. It was delicious. Before we left her house I got to play with Fido and Tula, her dogs. It was hilarious whenever I was going to grab the mosquito spray bottle the dogs ran away. Cornelia said they are very afraid of it. Before we went to the airport we went to a place that was like an animal rescue zoo, or ARZ. They had a snake exhibit that was very cool. I was able to hold a Python and a Tiger Snake. But the one I didn’t hold but was able to see was the Black Momba, the most venomous snake in the world. The color of it is kind of a grey-green color. The reason it is called a Black Momba is because the inside of it’s mouth is black. One of my favorite parts of the ARZ was seeing the tamed squirrels. They were very funny. You could rub your fingers on the chicken wire and the squirrel would climb up onto the fence and lick your fingers. It was hilarious.I also enjoyed seeing the one winged White Faced Owl.

After the ARZ Cornelia dropped us off at the airport. We took a small plane to our lodge but first had to take two other stops to pick up two other people. The ride was VERY BUMPY! I was almost about to throw up. But my mom threw up. The third flight wasn’t so bad, there wasn’t as much turbulent because we weren’t flying over desert, we were flying over water of the Okovenga Delta,  since the heat in the desert creates thermals which creates turbulence.

Our guide picked us up from the runway dirt strip. His name was Owner. He took us back to the camp where we ate lunch and was shown to our tent. Owner is going to be our guide all week long. At 4 o’clock we went on an evening activity which for us was a game drive. The game drive was very fun. We saw two lions which means we only have one animal left to go of the Big 5, the leopard. The Big 5 are: Lions, Leopard, Rhino, Buffalo, Elephant. When we were driving by the elephants one of the elephants got a little testy. He turned around and looked right at us and then went into the bushes and started shaking his head.

Right after the game drive we had a little time to write our blog and get ready for dinner. Dinner was good. I had rice, green beans, fish, baby squash and for dessert a piece of cake.

After dinner, back in our tent, as we were settling down and doing our nightly routine we came across cockroaches, a lot of them too! One was crawling up towards me in the bed where I was lying in bed. I yelled “There’s a cockroach coming up my bed towards me!” Then we saw more. I was freaked out while mom was killing them! It was a long night. We have had so many insects, already three: Baboon Spider, very big Wall Spiders and Cockroaches in our tent!
